Slovenia is the industrially-agrarian country. Its economy is based on industrial production. The coal mining, zinc ores is conducted. In capital — Ljubljana and in the city of Esenitse — the enterprises of the heavy industry are placed. But the main industries are mechanical engineering (including electronic), chemical (including pharmaceutical), light and tanning. Slovenia has well balanced industrial structure. Products of metallurgy, pulp-and-paper, tanning branches, the sports goods, textiles go on foreign markets. New branches of the industry include electronic instrument making, the chemical and pharmacological industry, transport mechanical engineering. The polygraphic branch is developed. Plant growing makes about 40% of all agriculture, animal industries — 55%, wine growing and fruit growing — 5%. The pasturable animal industries prevails in the Alpine both Subalpine areas and the Karst. Subpannen specializes on manufacture of grain cereals, cultivation of large horned livestock. In Dolensk, Gorensk, valley of the rivers Savas-Moores and Istria development has received vegetable growing (cultivation of root crops). In Istria also grow up olives and grapes, winemaking is developed. Sheep breeding and horse breeding have lowered the manufacture (except for horse farms in Lipits where plant breed of horses). Forestry remains extremely important branch of economy of Slovenia, but owing to mass cuttings down of woods and the worsened ecology, preparation of wood has been reduced. Slovenia is compelled to import wood. The government encourages development of private business in sphere of tourism. The mountain relief and climate of republic create fine base for mountaineering (mountain skiing, hunting, fishery, descent on the mountain rivers). The income of tourism — is one of the main sources of currency receipts. Slovenia exports the industrial goods, machines and the equipment, production of the chemical industry, the foodstuffs. Imports — machines and the equipment, the industrial goods, production of the chemical industry, fuel, the foodstuffs. The basic trading partners are Germany, Italy, France, Croatia, Austria. |
